Les Follatères - www.fullytourisme.ch
The Follatères nature reserve offers a magnificent landscape outlining the bend of the Rhône.
Follatères Nature Reserve
Subject to the influences of the continental climate and the Lake Geneva climate, this site is a true natural paradise, teeming with varied and unusual animal and plant species. It is visited each year not only by numerous hikers, but also by scientists and university students.
Around 500 hectares of lawns, rocks, and dry forests stretch here between Dorénaz and Fully. From the end of January, while Switzerland is experiencing the cold of winter and the ski season is in full swing in the resorts, the Follatères reserve sees its first Bulbocodes bloom. From February, the blooms follow one after the other, reaching their peak in late spring, with the song of nightingales. Then follow the golden tones of summer, drowned in the chirping of cicadas. The late season brings even more sensations: a symphony of autumnal colors, the scent of crushed hyssop, the ballet of migrating birds of prey...

Special fauna
Many species can be seen in the Follatères reserve. The arid slopes are crisscrossed by flocks of butterflies: Common Flamingo, Great Apollo, Aurora, Provençal Lemon, Checkerboard, Sylvandre, etc. The hay meadows are home to bird species threatened in Europe: the Wryneck, the Red-backed Shrike, the Stonechat, but also buzzards and kestrels. The high pastures are home to all the birds of the Alps: the Northern Wheatear, the Rock Thrush, the Snowflake, the Alpine Chough and the Red-billed Chough. Chamois and ibex, golden eagles, partridges, hares, lynx, owls, owls, peregrine falcons, deer, roe deer and wild boars live in the forest. Bearded Vultures with a wingspan of almost 3 m can also be seen.
