The municipality of Frenkendorf has around 6,500 inhabitants and is located in the transition area between the upper Basel region and the lower Basel region, 12 kilometers from the city of Basel. Here at Hülftenschanz, the Basel city troops suffered a decisive military defeat against the Landschafler on August 3, 1833, which led to the creation of the half-canton of Basel-Landschaft.
